![]() They DO start bringing in the back story (finally) but the information still seems vague. Also, when he serves drinks to people to encourage them to get together, does it wear off? Why is it his job to encourage relationships he knows nothing about? Maybe he can tell in the auras? Well, you’ll never know because it’s never explained.īy episode 13 (out of 16) he STILL has not explained his magical powers to his girlfriend (probably because the writers had no clear idea of what his powers and purpose actually are). Or why sometimes the tree looks dark and ominous and sometimes it doesn’t. It shows the potion making and the aura reading, but never really explains how the magic works and why it’s his JOB to serve potions to people.Īnd by episode 11, you still have no idea WHY he needs to be connected to this tree or why he can only read auras sometimes. Episode 1 and 2 show the tree, the matching tattoos and even some dark elements that the tree might carry. There are a lot of reasons why this show went from being interesting to middling, to epic fail. ![]() He sees different colored auras on people and has a fading tree tattoo like his grandfather… all of it seemed really promising. I love magic and fantasy dramas! Fantasy is my thing, and I couldn’t wait to find out what the connection between the tree, the potions, and Oh Soo’s purpose actually was. I also responded to the filming style: cinematic close-ups with really shallow depth perception - it’s a style that reads higher quality than a lot of dramas and the show is a nice 40-50 minutes per episode. And I’ll admit I think Jong-Hyun is super cute so… When the show first started I noticed a couple of things I instantly liked: A unique magical element, a lead with a poetic tie to the fantasy part of the story, and a leading lady who was independent, strong, caring and could literally kick any dudes ass (and does!). I was excited to see Kim So Eun in something since I remembered her from Boys Over Flowers (yes, I’m trash). If you read this whole review i’m proud of you because it’s long,I had a lot of feelings so forgive me! About this show:Īn attractive, rich, cold male has mystical powers in which he can read auras and thusly encourage relationships using a magical tree potion. A.K.A how I was tricked into watching what I thought was going to be an awesome love story with fantasy elements, into watching a run-of-the-mill romance with tons of plot holes. ![]()
